ROUGH TRADE RECORDS
An independent record label study based in England established in 1978 created by Geoff Travis in San Fransisco . Rough Trade started of as a music store speaclising in reggae and garage rock that also promoted records from 'Punk' a very early indie pop and early post punk bands such as 23 Skidoo, Buzzcocks and Desperate Bicycles. Geoff Travis started of forming a band called Scritti Polliti and began the label along with Steve Montgomery who was initially a devout customer of the store was offered a job by Travis as effective co-manager, then joined by another college Richard Scott in 1977. Rough Trade produced it's own record for the first time after a french punk band 'Metal Urbain' published their music. Rough Trade specialised in European post-punk and other alternative music in the late 1970's and early 1980's. They producing so many records for popular bands in 1991 things fell down hill when the company lost a lot of money however they relaunched in 2000 this time Travis working with Janette Lee and minority staff from Sanctuary Records then in 2007 Sanctuary Records sold Rough Trade to Beggars group.
